Social Media Updates for May 2024

There have been a few updates in the social media space over the last month. The proposed changes indicate that the channels are looking for ways to enhance users’ quality time on the platforms. Read what’s happening on the channels below.

Facebook

With there being a continuous demand for video-based content, Facebook is set to introduce vertical orientation for their video player system. This new feature will be able to be used on reels, lives and extended videos on the platform. This new feature indicates Facebook’s interest in creating content similar to its sister company, Instagram and for mobile users.

Instagram

Instagram has been recently testing an expanded carousel feature enabling selected users to add more than ten images to a carousel post. The intention is to rollout this new feature in the coming months if the feedback and insights are positively received.

TikTok

There’s been a rise in TikTok encouraging users to upload photos via TikTok Notes. This suggests that TikTok is looking to diversify the range of content shared on the channel to engage and retain users on the platform. TikTok Notes is likely to open new doors for the platform and should be considered as part of your overall social media content strategy.

X (formerly known as Twitter)

X will soon be rolling out a regular blogging feature which will be available to Premium subscribers and verified organisations. The blog content will allow videos and images embedded into them with the articles will be directly shown in follower timelines. It will be interesting to to see the result of this new feature which is likely to be a success.
